Spiritual Direction
What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual Direction is about transformation. It is a journey of deepening our awareness of who we are and learning how to live more fully from that Presence and our ever awakening heart. This journey invites us to slow down and listen deeply to the intelligence of Love, sensitizing us to our Wholeness within the Whole and the depth dimension contained in every moment of our lives. Spiritual Direction creates a spacious and safe container for those seeking a more intimate relationship with the Divine in a way that honors each of our unique histories, longings, and paths.
I practice Spiritual Direction within the contemplative Wisdom tradition which means practicing a way of knowing and being that involves the fullness of ourselves - our hearts, our bodies, and our minds. This three-centered way of Being awakens our connection to and within the Whole, inviting us to live and breathe and move with purpose, compassion, and rooted presence, discerning what is needed in our relationships and work in the world.
Who is Spiritual Direction suited for?
What kind of support does it offer?
Spiritual Direction is for anyone seeking transformation, deeper meaning and connection. It is for those:
desiring a deeper connection to Spirit, drawn to explore the very Ground of Being and Mystery in their lives
seeking a wider capacity to be more present and open to God’s work in their lives both at the level of being and doing
solidly rooted in a faith tradition with a desire for widening intimacy, joy, and freedom
questioning, uncertain, doubting, or deconstructing/decolonizing their faith or previous religious paradigms
seeking deeper alignment with their authentic Self and desiring to live more fully into their vocation as an expression of their unique person and giftings
questioning how to heal fragmentation, loss, and disconnection within themselves, the world, and others from a place of Love and compassion
seeking a contemplative space to explore the Divine’s invitations to Wholeness and rest in the infinite Love of God found within the very conditions of their lives
What does a session look like?
Sessions often begin with a spiritual practice before moving into a conversation about what is presently calling your attention in your life. My role in this space is not to “direct” you but rather companion you on this journey through inquiry, listening, and exploration.
Together we will be present to your body, heart, and mind as well as the ever present wisdom arising from Spirit/God/the Divine, the earth, ancestors (both biological and spiritual), and other human relationships.
This generative process invites both effort and surrender and a deep consent to the work of Love that guides us into deeper connection, beauty, purpose, and freedom.
Logistics
Sessions are 60 minutes and take place over Zoom or in-person at my office in the neighborhood of Hillcrest in San Diego, California.
My desire is that this support be accessible. I offer a needs-based sliding scale which we can discuss in our initial conversation.
We are talking about transformation, a kind of sacred alchemy… that defines our essential human task. The secret of our identity does not lie in the outer form or in how successfully we manipulate the outer forms of the sensible world. Rather, it lies in how we are able to set them (and ourselves) aflame to reveal the inner quality of their aliveness. The names of God lie coiled within the physical forms of things; our particular and uniquely human task is to spring the trap and set them free. They cannot manifest apart from the sensible realm…but neither will they manifest automatically within it unless there is a further act of transformation. That is our job. Working within the raw materials of the physical world, we are to give “birthing” and “body” to the names of God so that the invisible becomes visible. We are midwives of the Spirit.
